Wash & evaluate the surface

  • Begin by washing and drying your boat or RV with a premium marine wash. Meguiar’s M54 Gel Wash is a great product to effectively remove loose surface contaminants without stripping wax protection.
  • If you have severe oxidation where chalk comes off on your hands when you touch it, consider washing the surface with Meguiar’s M771 Heavy Duty Oxidation Scrub to prep the fiberglass/gel coat and make compounding easier.
  • Evaluate the surface. If you have light to moderate defects in the fiberglass or gel coat like oxidation, staining, etching or scratches use Meguiar’s M49 Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover. If the defects are heavy Meguiar’s Marine/RV M67 One Step Compound would be a better choice, or if the defects are severe Meguiar’s Marine/RV M91 Power Cut Compound would be the best selection.
  • After removing all oxidation and below surface defects the surface is ready for Meguiar’s M45 High Gloss Polish.
Tips for applying M45 High Gloss Marine Polish
  • Shake product well.
  • For best results, apply in the shade to a cool, clean surface.
  • Dispense a small amount of polish to a Meguiar’s Soft Foam Applicator (by hand), a foam polishing disc (by da polisher), or a foam polishing pad (by rotary).
  • Work thin and evenly into a 1-2 square foot area using light pressure and overlapping strokes to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Wipe residue off immediately, before it dries with a premium microfiber towel like Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel.
  • Work in sections.
  • If the polish is drying quickly or if working in a humid environment, work in smaller sections and remove residue quicker.
  • Apply long-lasting protection after with a product like Meguiar’s Marine/RV M56 Pure Wax Carnauba Blend or Meguiar’s M63 Flagship Premium Marine Wax.
  • Do not apply to vinyl or rubber surfaces.
